I sat down to embroider and she jumped right up on my lap and under like she had a plan. She slept there for about an hour. She also likes the new secretary in the hallway. She uses her sleeping chair in there now.
we have a new painting in the living room. He didn’t know that I was making digital paintings with a honeycomb look before he painted this! He also said the other day after finishing a box of devil dogs in record time that he didn’t need to see one ever again. Today he found out that he put them out of business. (they are on strike right now). And he says things right before the TV does. ALL THE TIME. All the time.
I am still working on the composition of the “pink” quilt/gum quilts. There is an orange sherbert colored one almost done. I decided that the turquois and red quilt needed to be separated into a turquois quilt and a red & blue quilt due to color.
So that makes three quilts. Then I have this backing fabric I bought with this series in mind, sort of, and want to use that for a candy corn quilt, four. I made a candy corn quilt a couple years ago (you can see it hanging next to the new fabric.
I also want to make a two sided bubble gum quilt, one side bubbles the other side sidewalk gum with quilting around the peices. 5 quilts.
It wasn’t my day off…we went for a walk yesterday at the township’s ill kept “arboretum” and there is a tree there with weeping branches that I made a couple small baskets out of years ago. Yesterday I collected some branches and when I came home I made the start of a basket and instead of making a vessel I finished the edges. It looks like a dream catcher which I always thought were very cliche. But anyway, it smells good like pine. I think it is some sort of Larch tree but the name plate wasn’t readable. I researched Larch trees and it is interesting that they have cones but loose their needles after they turn yellow in the fall.
The walk was full of the smells of late spring plants and the deep smell of decaying leaves and earth since it has rained the last few days which made me feel immersed in the experience. I did not think about my everyday life I thought instead of just how amazing everything smelled and nature is much bigger than my everyday tasks I may think about. The smell of honeysuckle and other plants made my childhood flash in my mind like sunlight flashes into the car through the tree leaves. We came to a clearing with a large raspberry patch so we will go back a few times to check on it and hopefully we will catch them when they are ready to eat.
I am starting a new quilt eventually. A bubble gum quilt. I have alot of pink fabric I need to do something with. I don’t really like pink so I will have green in the quilt which is opposite on the color wheel sort of so it should really be intense. I thought about using old sugar sacks too since gum and candy is all about sugar. It should be pretty obnoxious (spelling?). I do not know what pattern/block I will use if any. I’ll have to start hanging the fabrics on the design wall to figure it out. But first I need to finish the edges of the quilt that is on the design wall. I told myself I would finish everything before I start something new. 😦 Maybe I should just get more design walls!
